Even Before They Were Superstars, They Were Showstoppers!

Nicole Arbour started performing on the showstopper stage at the age of 9, and by 18, the always creative artist received choreography awards from her all time favorite competition. Having now turned her love of musical theatre, combined with her comedic talent and stunning on stage appearance into a career in comedy, Nicole, can be found starring in the #1 comedy show in Canada, Much Music’s “Video On Trial”, and has made appearances on TSN, ESPN, The Comedy Network, The Women’s Network, Slice TV, Spike, and in the feature film “The Rocker” (in theatres April 08), when she’s not cracking up crowds touring with her stand up. Most recently you may have caught Nicole’s project with All-Star photographer Caitlin Cronenberg being profiled on Entertainment Tonight, ETalk, and the cover of the Toronto SUN, so keep your eye out for what ET has called “a force to be reckoned with… the future of (this industry).

 

Brooke Sheperd went to Pinnell Dance Center in Columbus, Ohio and has competed at Showstopper for many years and has also been in our opening numbers.  She is currently a participant on the dance competition show "Your Mama Don't Dance" on Lifetime TV.  She can also be seen in several national commercials. Brooke has also choreographed for the infamous Alvin Ailey Dance Fest in New York.

 

Ashlee Dupre' of St. Petersburg, Florida, is currently touring with Twyla Tharp's "Movin Out." In addition to performing in the Ensemble, as understudy, Ashlee also dances the roles of 'Brenda' and 'Judy'. Until age 14, she trained at Cheryl Lee Studio of Dance and with Les Jeunes Danseurs Youth Ballet Company and competed at many Showstoppers Competitions; thereafter she trained at the Kirov Academy of Ballet. Upon graduation, she joined Colorado Ballet as a corps member.

 

Annalisa DiBernardo has competed at showstopper for several years and has attended 2 conventions. She has recently been cast by Martin Charnin (original ANNIE director and lyracist) as Molly in the Non-equity National tour of Annie. At her last showstopper competition she belted out New York, New York in song and dance and placed 4th overall in the junior division!

 

Charlene deGuzman competed in several Showstopper regional and national competitions with Sheri's Born to Dance and Yoko's Dance & Performing Arts Academy. Currently, she is on the national tour with the off-broadway hit, "STOMP," and most recently she played Hannah's drummer on Disney's "Hannah Montana".

 

Alicia Morton

This Showstopper competitor is destined for the "big time". As a member of the Les Miserables Broadway company, 12 year old Alicia Morton has been performing Young Cosette and Young Eponine since February of 1996. She has been part of this company for longer than almost any of the current cast! She has also understudied and performed the role of Gavroche several times, not only on Broadway, but with the US Tour in Toronto. She can most recently be seen in the lead role of the TV-musical movie Annie.


Bree Turner

Before this young actress became a movie star, she was a Showstopper competitor performing with Darlene's Dance and Such! You may recognize Bree from My Best Friends Wedding, Duce Bigalow or The Wedding Planner.She has also played in numerous other films and commercials and her latest project is The Quest for Length


Penni Abrantes has competed in the Showstopper 2000-2002 competitions with Dance Connection PAC in Concord, CA. Since then, she has moved to Los Angeles, CA and has performed in Missy Elliot's music video, Raven Simone's video, and with Britney Spears on her promotional tour and ABC TV Special. Penni has also danced in the "Aladdin Show" at Disneyland's California Adventure theme park and danced for famous choreographers, Tina Landon and Brian Freedman. Enrico Rodriquez

This young star started out on a Showstopper stage with Deborah's Stage Door.
Enrico was last seen on Broadway as a big kid in Big the musical and Rent on Broadway. He also appeared in West Side Story, Crazy for You, and Bye Bye Birdie with Rue McClanahan at the Pittsburgh civic light opera.


 
 

JC Chasez

Before becoming a pop super star, this *NSYNC member was a young, aspiring dancer and a competitor on the Showstopper stage. Originally from Bowie, Maryland, JC was born with a talent for singing, dancing, and acting. This talent later led him to his debut as a member of the Mickey Mouse Club and brought him to the group now known as *NSYNC.


Alana Niehoff has competed in Denver's Showstopper Competition and went to the 1993 nationals in Myrtle Beach, SC, performing in the televised high point group. Since then, Alana have danced with the Alabama Ballet and American Ballet Theatre Studio Company in New York. She also appeared last summer in Maury Yestons "Hans Christian Anderson" with Main State Music Theatre where it made its world premier. Currently Alana is a Radio City Rockette with Radio City Music Hall. She's also on staff as a teacher with two dance studios in Connecticut. Alana is also a private teacher in New York City and a guest teacher for many summer programs and schools across the United States, teaching jazz, ballet, lyrical, tap, and tumbling lessons.

Julius Sermonia

This up and coming Broadway star was a senior soloist on the Showstopper stage competing with Canadian Dance Company in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He was a Showstopper Junior National Champion in 1992 and a Senior Champion in 1994. He is currently pursuing a dancing career and is now in the Susan Stroman's Tony winning Broadway musical Contact.

Lyndsy Fonesca

Before this young actress became a soap opera star, she was a Showstopper! Performing ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop, she has been dancing since the age of two. From Dance Connection Perfoming Arts Centre in Concord, CA; Lyndsy now plays Colleen Connelly on the Young and the Restless.


Mark Burrell

From Deborah's Stage Door, in Rochester Hills, MI. this former Showstopper is now on Broadway. Performing in the Broadway and Touring Company of Fosse, this young and talented dancer is destined for fame.


Meredith Patterson

After gracing the Showstopper stage numerous times from 1990-1993, with Dance Connection Performing Arts Centre in Concord, CA; Meredith has grown to become a bright star of Broadway. She currently has the lead role as 'Peggy Sawyer' in the New Broadway Revival of 42ND STREET and is on her way to becoming part of the next generation of leading ladies.


Paul Benshoof

Performing with Dance Connection Performing Arts Centre in Concord, CA, this former Showstopper's professional teaching career and performance opportunities have taken him to countries that include Mexico, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Turkey, and the Netherlands including all over the U.S. Some of Paul's many touring credits include, GLORIA ESTEFAN'S 2004 NATIONAL TOUR choreographed by Liz Imperio and the National and European tours with A FEW GOOD MEN DANCIN' choreographed by Jeff Amsden. In addition he's performed with companies in Sweet Charity, Crazy for you and many Disney Productions. Paul has also been fortunate enough to perform and be seen on Fox's American Idol, The Rosie O'Donnell, Jenny Jones, The Today Show, Extra, Entertainment Tonight, Super Bowl XLII and the NAACP Image Awards with Stevie Wonder and Lil' Richard.


Kristen Konski

Kristen was a contestant at the 2002 Lawrenceville, NJ competition in April. In August 2002, she received the title of Miss Teen of Pennsylvania and placed 5th runner-up in the Miss Teen of America.


Mitchel Federan of Center Stage Dance Studio appeared in the opening number on the Showstopper television show in 1999. He was in "The Music Man" on Broadway, the national Broadway tour of Annie Get Your Gun, Dance with the Rockettes in Mexico City, and is currently playing the role of Petey Cortlandt on the popular soap opera "All My Children".


Spencer Redford is from Deborah's Stage Door in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She has been appearing in the role of Caitlin on the Emmy award winning daytime drama The Young and the Restless. Past performance credits include Disney's That's So Raven, NBC's Law and Order, as well as many other films and commercial.


Missy Morrison is currently performing in the Boston cast of Irving Berlin's WHITE CHRISTMAS at the Wang Center through December 31, 2005. Since graduating Cum Laude from Syracuse University with a BFA in Musical Theatre and a Minor in Political Science in May, 2004; she performed in MACK AND MABEL at Goodspeed Opera House with Donna McKechnie and Christiane Noll; Peformed in FOOTLOOSE, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and HELLO, DOLLY! at the Kansas City Starlight Theatre, and toured with Michele Lee in HELLO, DOLLY!. She was also a Top Ten Finalist for Miss New York for Miss America in 2004 and was the Preliminary Winner of the Onstage Interview Competition. She also performed as a Dancer/Singer at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA for five summer seasons. Missy has won Showstopper regional and national soloist titles including:

Missy currently resides in Manhattan.


Meghan Garstang competed with Deborah's Stage Door in Rochester Hills, Michigan. A former Showstopper award winner, Meghan recently moved to Tokyo, Japan to showcase her singing and dancing talents as a performer in the Tokyo Disney Resort. She is currently appearing as the female lead in "Tap Happy Two", a show in the American Waterfront area of Disney's newest park: Tokyo Disney Sea.

 

Cameron Adams -
Before joining Broadway as Zaneeta Shinn in "The Music Man", Cameron was a multiple Showstopper winner, including being one of the Top Soloists at the East Coast National Finals.
Cameron also starred in the Television production of "The Music Man", reprising her Broadway role. Afterwards, Cameron joined the cast of the Broadway revival of "Oklahoma".
Recently, Cameron has been on the first national tour of "Hairspray" where she plays the ensemble role of Brenda and understudies two principal roles, Amber and Penny. Cameron gathered most of her Dancing Knowledge learning from Burke Daniels at Artworks Dance in Myrtle Beach, SC.

 

Marty Dew

Originally from Myrtle Beach, SC, this former Showstopper, is a rising star in the dance world. He most recently worked with Britney Spears on her new Pepsi commercials, & has performed with NSync and Michael Jackson at the 2001 Music Video Awards Show.

You can also see Marty in his big screen debut in Martin Lawrence's movie "Black Knight". or catch him, on MTV's " Becoming" Series! A new column following Marty's career will be featured in several issues of Dance Spirit Magazine!

 

Bridget Berger of Deborah's Stage Door in Rochester Hills, MI currently lives in NYC where she has acted in numerous skits on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." On Broadway, she played the role of Virginia in the Tony Award-winning revival of "The Pajama Game." Off-Broadway, she appeared in the play, "The Voyage of the Carcass" as well as "Two Gentlemen of Verona" at New York City's Shakespeare in the Park. Bridget can be seen in the upcoming independent film, "Farmgirl in New York."
